Scam School with Brian Brushwood

April 7th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Podcasting

Revision3 just debuted a new show called “Scam School” which they spin as a show about Magic tricks and ways to win bets, sort of. It’s hosted by a guy named Brian Brushwood, who is a professional magician.

I actually saw him perform several years ago at Georgia Tech and I bought his books which were along the same lines of his new show, including how to win free drinks at the bar and how to begin learning to breathe fire. Not to mention I remembered his domain name off the top of my head (no small feat since I haven’t been there in probably 3 or 4 years.)

I’m eager to see the first episode and where the show goes, looks like it is off to a good start though.

Episode 9 again: Sealed Deck part 2

November 26th, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in Podcasting

This was filmed at GP: Daytona Beach and, let’s be honest, last week’s episode hardly deserved the name. So, to further prove how little we care about episode numbering here is Episode 9 again.

In this episode we learn just why we need Darren our video and audio guy, as he sent us off to Daytona while he took care of things, and unfortunately the audio in our intro and outro is horrible, sorry about that. So don’t blame Darren for it! Also, and more importantly, in this episode, Lee looks over my card pool and tells us what he thinks of it and how he would have built the deck from it.

The whole card pool, deck lists (both mine and Lee’s) will be up later today, as usual.

Episode 9 – The Shortest

November 19th, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in Podcasting

We’re back from Grand Prix: Daytona Beach! It was a great, but truly exhausting, event and I hated having to get up and go do my real job. I fell asleep putting this episode together, which, despite it’s simplicity still took me a little while.

For those who are just joining us, having first learned of us this weekend at the Grand Prix, as I mention in the episode, this is not our normal way of doing things. Normally we are on camera and it is focused on some element of strategy in the game, this one is just a collection of snapshots from the event and some of my snarky humor interspersed.

Be sure to check out next week’s episode where we’ll look over Lee Steht’s shoulder as he builds a deck from my sealed deck card pool!

Episode 21: Jonathan Coulton and Zombie Fruitcakes

November 14th, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in Podcasting

On this episode, Brian gathers Crispy and Stephen around the podcast fire to talk about Jonathan Coulton, Zombies, Numa Numa and Yahoo! … plus anything else we think of.

Comments, questions, requests to kill Brian for hitting the Yahoo button like it’s wired to a beer dispenser … feedback@whatthecast.com

And pants … pants are funny …

Episode 20: Will Smith in the Doll House

November 7th, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in Podcasting

Episode 20, recorded on November 5th … remember, remember … Brian, Patrick and Stephen talk about everything from Will Smith to Ron Paul. It’s definitely not affected by the writer’s strike, because nobody could have thought to write this down!

Episode 7 – Florida States

November 5th, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in Podcasting

Episode 6, as we mentioned last week, was nixed. But we’re back! Episode 7 is one of our best yet.

Segments:
- PT Valencia, GP Brisbane & Player of the Year Race (this segment was taken from episode 6, so it’s slightly dated.)
- Footage from the Florida State Champs
- Elves Deck, the winner of Florida Champs

Alright folks, we may be delayed with next week’s episode. Our video guy, Darren, is currently in France and so we can’t get it recorded on schedule. I’m investigating some alternatives.

Episode 17: The Atari 2600 is older than Crispy!

October 3rd, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in Podcasting

Brian’s back from hiatus, bring Stephen and Crispy back for a video game heavy episode of WhatTheCast. The Atari 2600 turns 30 right as Halo 3 hits the markets … so Brian and Stephen get all nostalgic about interactive fiction (the kids call them “text adventures“).

Do time-traveling Australian pirates listen to this podcast? Can youngsters like Crispy relate to the Atari 2600 and Zork era of gaming? Was E.T. the first attempt at Myst? Can text messaging be combined with text adventures? Can modern beverage tie-ins work with classic video games? And will Stephen’s kids think he’s crazy when he talks about video games in black and white? Listen to Episode 17 and find out!

Episode 2 – The Spgame

October 1st, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in Podcasting

Episode 2 - The SpgameRight click and save the link for to download the Video mp4 format of the video!

Here’s our second episode. It had a bumpy start, towards the end of filming our video guy noticed a sudden missing level of noise, so we were concerned we’d shot the majority of the episode with noise issues which went unnoticed but everything seems to have come out fine. On top of that, the first attempt we made at editing it was a crash and burn scenario due to computer problems. But this is a fantastic episode and our production quality only gets better!

Topics in this episode:
- The Invitational
- More Lorwyn
- Cube Draft
- Grand Prix Denver
- Willy Edel

Please be patient! When downloading this episode, if you open to view it in the browser, it’s going to take a little while since it’s a 130 meg download.

11:20am – The flash version is up and running. It’s still a bit small, I’m trying to find the magic settings to allow a bigger format but so far to achieve decent file sizes I have to downsize to 240×180 which is small. Next week we will have a .wmv format for the episode which will be decent size and a bit bigger for those who want it.

Episode 1 – Pilot

September 24th, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in Podcasting

It’s finally here. I’m unbelievably excited to be able to bring this to life and officially kick off the show. It’s a surprisingly big task to put together a weekly video show.

Inside this episode:
- Pro Tour 2008 – We make some predictions
- Lorwyn preview
- Master’s Edition – We did this segment on the fly and so it’s not properly introduced, but we decided to include it.
- Planeswalkers
