"I Didn’t Do an About-Face on Pete Buttigieg. Buttigieg Did an About-Face on Me."
A really good piece about "Mayor Pete" and the work he's done in his role in the Biden administration. I have also been watching / listening to this video with him debating / talking to undecided voters in Michigan, and I'm just reminded that I think he has a very long and successful political career ahead of him.
If anyone is going to be our first openly gay President, it's Pete.
Airlines required to make bathrooms accessible on big jets
I am 6'5" and I am extremely shocked and excited at this news. It is likely TMI, but normal airplane lavatory dimensions make it quite difficult for me to properly use the facilities during flights. So, this will be a direct improvement for me and many others who have it even harder than I do.
Southwest's woes are due to not maintaining their digital systems
Southwest providing a very visible business lesson in the costs of technical debt. Technical debt refers to the increasing cost of managing technology as it falls behind. From the sounds of it, Southwest had a system which "worked" and thus they kept kicking the can down the street for updating their system.
This weather system this past week finally revealed the level to which their technical debt had left them completely unable to catch up and maintain their system.
Now, the question is, will their losses from these days - as well as any fines which the government might levy as punishment for their mismanagement, prove out to be less than what they would have been paying to update and maintain a modern system? That will be the telling business lesson.
JetBlue is buying Spirit Airlines
I've heard of moving quick but this seems a bit wild. Just yesterday news of the Spirit + Frontier deal dying. And today JetBlue swoops in. I can only assume more conversations were had in the lead up to this.
I've never flown Spirit (or Frontier for that matter.) I've flown JetBlue once or twice, it was fine. Also, I've come to realize that I had mixed up when Alaskan Airlines bought Virgin; for some reason I was thinking they had bought JetBlue.
The Sky Thief: Beebo Russell's Last Flight
How did Beebo Russell — a goofy, God-fearing baggage handler — steal a passenger plane from the Seattle-Tacoma airport and end up alone in a cockpit, with no plan to come down?
I remember the evening this happened. I was sitting at my computer and pulled up an online feed of the air traffic radio as I followed it also on Twitter.
Lufthansa Starts 'Hate Selling' Tickets to Put People Off Flying This Summer
Like many other airlines, particularly in Europe, Lufthansa is concerned it can’t cope with the level of demand for travel after the lifting of pandemic restrictions saw a massive surge know ticket sales.
Lufthansa initially raced to meet that demand with increased capacity but it has become increasingly obvious that the airline doesn’t have the staff or resources to serve the number of customers that want to fly with the airline this summer.
For the month of July, Lufthansa has now reduced all new short-haul ticket sales to the most expensive ‘fare bucket’ offered. A round-trip ticket from London to Munich in Ecomy [sic] now costs €1,035, while a return trip from Frankfurt to Paris with direct flights on Lufthansa costs €1,039.
