Folkbildningsrörelsen: that is the name we have for this movement of self-organized study groups, resource centers, maker spaces, public lectures, and free retreats for personal development.
These types of things exist in other countries too – but not at the same scale. Or even close.
An interesting look at the prevalence of social study circles including the background and how they came about.
It's a wonderful idea and I'd love to have something similar here among my friends and social group.

I have begun trying to make my Sunday mornings about watching soccer and catching up on articles I've snagged to read. I do this to varying levels of success. This morning I got a fair bit distracted, but am now watching Bayern vs. Union Berlin and reading about Florence Pugh.
As you'll see in the end of day summary, it's been an absolutely miserable day of playing chess for me. Feels like one of those periods I need to stop playing for a while and refocus on some analysis and practice. I have lost every single game today I think.
