Fountain of Youth (2025)
The movie is not amazing. It's the latest in the lineage of Indiana Jones, the Librarian, and National Treasure. But, it is not an amazing movie. I hope it does well enough they get to do another one and perhaps find their groove.
Also, I legit can't remember much of the soundtrack at all, but there is a Thai version of 'Bang Bang' at the start of the movie which is a banger:
G20 (2025) - 3/5 Australian Accents
I love Viola Davis and will watch her in anything. Overall, this movie was fine and entertaining, but I doubt I'll ever watch it again.
Cross (2024) - 3.5 / 5 Fan Boys
I was first introduced to Aldis Hodge (the actor who plays Alex Cross) when he was on Leverage. He's come a long way as an actor and he does a good job as the lead on this show. All through the first season his best friend looked familiar but it wasn't until the season finale that I finally figured out who he was: Isaiah Mustafa, aka the guy from Old Spice commercials.
The show, overall, is decent. We enjoyed it. I had some concerns for how it was going to end, but it landed in a way I enjoyed.
We'll be looking forward to a second season.
Fallout (2024) - 4 of 5 PIP Boys
I binged Fallout this weekend after putting it off. I never played the games and just didn't expect to enjoy it. The real reason I enjoyed it is unquestionably Walton Goggins.
Good Omens, Season 1 (2019) - 4 of 5 Fallen Angels
So I started watching this when it first came out and then something happened and I forgot. Then, I watched The Sandman and mentally I just marked myself as having watched this as well. The whole streaming Neil Gaiman tv-show thing. In any case, I realized my mistake and put it on to watch over the past week.
David Tennant and Michael Sheen are amazing together. Fantastic chemistry and so much fun.
Syncronizing between Ebooks and Audiobooks
One feature I dearly wish existed outside of the Kindle/Audible system was how they syncronized your reading an ebook and listening to an audiobook. Most of the time, this isn't a thing for me. If I listen to an audiobook, I don't also read it as an ebook. And in fact, usually, I don't want to.
But "How to be Perfect", which I mentioned earlier, is an audiobook that I do have the epub (ebook file) for, and I wish I could have that syncronization.
I've been thinking if there is a way to do this, using AI transcription from the audiobook to point to the ebook sections. I definitely don't have the time or skill to delve into it, but it seems like something which we're on the cusp of being able to solve quite easily.
Today's Amazon delivery:
- Bluetooth keyboard that I can use with my Duo 2 (and other devices, potentially, but primarily for the phone.)
- Eyeglass wipes to get rid of the smudges, dust, and dead skin which continuously collect on my eyeglasses.
- 3M anti-slip material so I can apply some small bits to my trackball which has a propensity for sliding off my laptop when I transition it from my lap to the table next to me.
I absolutely love my Duo 2, but for doing any writing beyond quick notes or social media posts, I simply find the typing experience on screen untenable. This Logitech keyboard has a trough for the devices to sit in, and it can be used to connect to up to 3 different devices thanks to the toggle.
So, the idea is that when I am at work on lunch, or out somewhere else with my daily bag, the keyboard unlocks the Duo 2 as a full computer-esque replacement.
"Amazon to Buy Maker of the Roomba for $1.7 Billion"
I fully believe Amazon wants Roombas to map customer homes and expand their smart home equipment dominance. But, I also can't help but think about the walking bipedal robot videos we have been seeing, and wonder how much of this deal is Amazon realizing the robotic technology in their warehouses is closer than people realize.
An interesting thread about the rampant counterfeits problem on Amazon, specifically with technical books
A look at Andy Jassy
I knew nearly nothing about Andy Jassy, this was a good brief overview given the news that he is replacing Bezos later this year.
Email from Jeff Bezos to employees about his stepping down as CEO later this year
I don't know of another company with an invention track record as good as Amazon's, and I believe we are at our most inventive right now. I hope you are as proud of our inventiveness as I am. I think you should be.
Alright, settle down Jeff. I think you might be a little overstepping here.
